Technical Documentation
Documentation written without specifying the reader's knowledge level ends up in the uncanny valley between tutorial and reference guide — too much hand-holding for senior developers, not enough for the engineers who actually need it. The most important line in any documentation prompt is the audience definition.

Write documentation for the new OAuth integration.
Strong Prompt
Role: Technical writer for a developer-focused product.
Audience: Backend developers who know REST APIs but have not implemented OAuth 2.0 before. They can read JSON and HTTP. Do not assume knowledge of the specific flow used here.
Task: Implementation guide with this structure:
- Overview: what this does and when to use it (2-3 sentences only)
- Prerequisites: credentials, libraries, and permissions needed before starting
- Step-by-step: numbered, each step includes the action + required code + what success looks like
- Common errors: cause and fix for each likely failure point
- Reference: scopes, environment variables, configuration options
Constraints: Every code snippet must be complete and copy-pasteable — no partial examples. Do not skip steps that seem obvious. Second person ("you") throughout.
Format: H2 for sections, H3 for subsections, code blocks for all code and CLI examples.
Competitive Analysis and Sales Objection Responses
This is the artifact most teams do not think to generate — and the one that creates the most immediate sales impact. Every time engineering ships a capability your competitors lack, your AEs need to know about it the same day. Not in a weekly sync. Not in a Slack summary. In a format they can use in a live call.

Task: Based on this release, produce two things:
1. Competitive differentiation cards (one per relevant competitor):
- The specific capability gap this release closes
- A positioning statement the AE can say out loud (2-3 sentences)
- Two factual proof points — no superlatives, no marketing language
2. Objection response guide:
- Top 3 objections a prospect raises in this feature area
- For each: the exact objection as spoken, a 2-3 sentence response, one follow-up question to ask
Constraints: Only claim what this release actually delivers. No "best," "only," or "most powerful." Frame competitor gaps as capability differences, not failures. Write every response in spoken language — AEs will say these out loud, not read them off a screen.
Quick Wins: Three Lines That Improve Any Existing Prompt
If you have artifacts already set up and do not want to rewrite their prompts from scratch, these three additions fix the most common output problems immediately.
Add These to Any Underperforming Prompt
- Add one audience sentence: "Audience: [role], who knows [X] but not [Y], and needs to walk away knowing [Z]." This single line fixes most tone and depth problems.
- Add one constraint: "Do not use [the specific phrase or jargon that keeps showing up in your output]." Every recurring problem in your output maps to a missing constraint. Convert the problem into a rule.
- Add one example snippet: "Match the tone and structure of this output I liked: [paste 3-5 lines]." One real example outperforms any description of what you want. If you have a past output that was exactly right, put it in the prompt.
